Special Prosecuting Attorney releases Greene County ruling

Greene County, Mo -  Special Prosecuting Attorney Amy Fite has released her findings Tuesday in a case designed to review actions, surrounding community education for a sales tax increase presented to Greene County voters in November 2017.

After following a thorough review, the special prosecutor ruled Greene County Commissioner Bob Cirtin did not commit legal or ethical wrongdoing in his actions surrounding the tax-related Political Action Committee or community education activities.

Further, the case concluded the conduct did not involve a willful or fraudulent violation or neglect of any official duty.

While conducting the review Fite also concluded :

  • There is no law prohibiting Commissioner Cirtin from creating a Political Action Committee.
  • Commissioner Cirtin was found not to be in violation of any Greene County personnel policies or state laws regarding his related work with the PAC.
  • Commissioner Cirtin did not fail to perform his duties as Presiding Commissioner while working with the PAC.
  • Greene County’s tax-exempt status was not improperly used for push cards developed for community education.

Cirtin added: “This is great news and finally puts to rest these allegations. I am happy to be able to put my focus and the community’s focus on what we have wanted to do all along, which is working to grow and better Greene County.”
