Greene County man found guilty of threatening step-son with sword

Springfield, Mo. – A man was convicted Thursday for assaulting his step-son and threatening him with a Japanese-style sword.

Augustine A. Mendoza, 62, was found guilty of one count of Unlawful Use Of Weapon and one count of Domestic Assault in the Fourth Degree, for events that took place in August 2017.

Mendoza admitted on the stand that he punched his step-son, adding his step-son did nothing to provoke the assault. He then retrieved a Japanese-style sword from among his belongings and proceeded to pursue him around their shared residence while shouting threats at him.

Mendoza is subject to a sentence of up to four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. His sentencing hearing is set for October 5, 2018.
