Springfield, MO -- Wrapping up a rehabilitation stint, highly-decorated St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina came to Springfield for the weekend – selling out stadiums and shelf stock.
Vice President and General Manager of the Springfield Cardinals Dan Reiter says, “When Yadi walks in, he’s something special. You know he’s not just another player, he’s an icon/a future hall-of-famer, and I think everyone wants to stop and pay attention.”
But it’s a whole different ballgame when Yadier Molina is in town. From burgers to beers, local businesses are cashing in on the baseball superstar.
Reiter says, “This weekend, Yadi brought a great boost to this entire region. We sold about 6500 extra tickets just because of Yadi. But it’s not just 6500 people coming to the game. It’s people that they’re paying to park, they’re eating at restaurants, and they’re going out after the game for nightlife.”
“It definitely helps business and that goes for anywhere whether it’s in Springfield, downtown, North, South… when you have any big name come,” Black Sheep Burgers and Shakes Manager Matt Kersey adds, “it definitely brings an impact to the community and the economy as well. ”
As businesses rake in the cash -- and locals rake in the memories – a visit from a baseball legend equals one un”4”gettable weekend.
