Ozark, Mo. -- Lightning struck an Ozark home early Thursday morning during a severe thunderstorm, leaving one local family without a place to stay.
Carol Damanskis was sleeping alongside her husband when the lightning struck.
“We knew immediately we were hit,” she said. “You can’t even describe the sound or the feel of it.”
The two homeowners opened the bedroom door to find their smoke-filled home destroyed—a hole in the roof evidence of what had happened.
According to reports, the strike caused the roof to catch fire and the structure’s sheetrock to collapse. A power surge destroyed the home’s appliances.
Just minutes after the strike, Damanskis and her husband were able to make it out of of the home uninjured, allowing firefighters to battle what was left of the flames.
The family says the fire damage was minimal, however it will take about four months to repair the rest of the damage.
