Springfield schools say an unloaded handgun was found in a student's vehicle on Glendale High School property this morning and that the student is in custody of law enforcement officials.
Administration received a tip around 9 a.m. that a student was in possession of a gun. The student was located and isolated by school police and administrators. Through the investigation officials located the unloaded handgun along with an unloaded air soft rifle in the vehicle.
The investigation is currently ongoing and school officials say all appropriate disciplinary procedures will be followed in responding to this violation.
Springfield Public Schools say they have zero tolerance for weapons on campus and makes every effort to keep schools safe for students and staff.
