Greene County, Mo. -

The Greene County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the man shot and killed this morning.

William Ray Simcoe, 45, was killed by officers after he raised a handgun towards them.

Authorities say shortly before 2:30 a.m. they were driving near Kansas and Kearney when they initiated a traffic stop on Simcoe for felony charges he was wanted on. Simcoe fled in his vehicle and authorities pursued. The chase ended on Highway YY near Maple Ridge Lane.

Simcoe got out of his vehicle and ran on foot as authorities continued to pursue him. That's when Simcoe raised a handgun towards authorities and stated he had a full clip. At that time deputies shot and killed Simcoe.

No other injuries were reported.

This is an ongoing investigation and we will have full details tonight at 6:30 and 9:00.
