Springfield, Mo -- Authorities have arrested the man wanted in connection to two recent murders.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Willie Haughton, 24, was taken into custody in the 3300 block of West Farm Road 148 early Friday morning. This after an earlier day long standoff came up empty.
Haughton is accused of shooting and killing Lance Loveless and Robert Hewitt just five days apart. Both men were found dead in their cars and police believe Haughton had met the victims just prior to their deaths.
Springfield Police started Thursday morning (April 5), around 6:00 AM, on North Bolivar Road, where they surrounded a home they believed the suspect to be in. A standoff ensued as authorities waited for a search warrant. Shortly after noon that search warrant was granted and authorities gained access to the home.
Three people were removed from the home during the hours-long standoff, however they were not taken into custody. It has not yet been released who the individuals are or why they were in the house. The standoff continued into the night before authorities announced that Haughton was not found in the home.
After the standoff ended police say a tip led them to West Farm Road 148 where Haughton was taken into custody.
Online records show Haughton is being held in the Greene County jail on pending charges of second degree murder and second degree domestic assault.
