Springfield, Mo. -- (3/6/2018) Emergency room visits for opioid overdoses are skyrocketing across the country.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report on Tuesday showing the midwest had the highest increase of emergency room visits for opioid overdoses in any region, which is up an average 70 percent in just over a year. Missouri's rate increased by 21 percent.
The CDC recommends a better response to drug addiction and overdose to fight the issue, including broader access to the overdose prevention drug narcan.
