Springfield man arrested after police pursuit

Springfield, Mo. -- (3/1/2018) Springfield Police officers were dispatched to a business in the 3000 block of W. Chestnut Expressway just after 3 a.m. Thursday due to a report of a male subject spraying a fire extinguisher inside a fenced area with no fire present.

An officer observed the subject, later identified as Jonathan Young, who then ran into the business and continued spraying toward the officer and his vehicle. Young drove a truck he stole from the business through a chained gate. According to police, Young drove erratically westbound on Chestnut Expressway, nearly hitting other vehicles, and a pursuit was initiated.

Young continued traveling west on Chestnut into the county with officers close behind. At 266/AB, the suspect vehicle stopped suddenly and reversed into a patrol vehicle, disabling it, before continuing west. The SPD officer in the vehicle received minor injuries.

Greene County Sheriff's Office took over the pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle was stuck after hitting a fence. Young fled on foot and was later found hiding nearby in a wooded area.

Young was taken into custody and booked on numerous charges. Charges are pending.
