Springfield, Mo. -- (2/26/2018) A Springfield man has been sentenced to 30 years for murdering his girlfriend.
Shawn Aaron Turner, 40, of Springfield, entered a guilty plea to the murder of his girlfriend, Kristi Spurlock, from events occurring on January 11, 2017. The mother of the victim had been attempting to contact her daughter when Turner answered the phone call and told the mother that he was sorry he killed her daughter. Officers then responded to the scene of the shooting where Turner exited the house and was taken into custody. Turner had a single gunshot wound to the head.
Turner told the detective that he and his girlfriend were arguing over money when the shooting occurred. Turner admitted to shooting her multiple times. Turner then told the detective he turned the gun on himself after he realized what he had done. Turner was sentenced Monday following a guilty plea before the Honorable David Jones pursuant to a plea agreement. Turner was sentenced to 30 years for 2nd degree murder, 3 years for armed criminal action and 7 years for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Turner will serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
