SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--(2/15/18) The Red Cross responded late last night to a fire at a Springfield motel, helping over 100 people find shelter. The fire started in the attic of the Welcome Inn and Extended Stay Motel. The Red Cross was able to set up an emergency shelter at a nearby church, giving those involved in the fire a place to sleep, along with snacks and supplies. The Red Cross tells Fox 5 that they will continue to work with those families to help them recover and get back on their feet.
“Our case workers will check back in with them and see if they are having any, what we call road blocks to their recovery, and see where else we can find resources and referrals to help them get over those hurdles,” said Stacey Burks, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Southwest Missouri.
All of those displaced in the fire have found a place to stay.
