Springfield, Mo. -- (2/15/2018) Community Partnership of the Ozarks has announced a partnership with The Dream Center, Drury University, Missouri State University and Senior Age to offer a 10-hour day of free tax preparation.
'Tax-A-Palooza' will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Dream Center, 823 W. Atlantic St. This event aims to increase the number of families receiving free tax help and raise awareness about tax credits for working families.
Federal and state tax returns will be prepared by IRS-certified volunteers from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Appointment and walk-in spots will be available.
“This is a first-of-its-kind event for the Springfield area,” said Patricia Deck, Vice President of Community & Neighborhood Development. “Our goal is to prepare more than 200 tax returns and hopefully bring back thousands in federal refunds to our clients.”
This first-time event is offered through Community Partnership’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and Senior Age’s Tax Counseling for the Elderly program. Eligibility restrictions apply, including:
- earned less than $55,000 in 2017 OR are over age 60
- did not declare bankruptcy in 2017
- do not own rental property
“We are so grateful to our volunteers and partners. We wouldn’t be able to make this happen without them, especially the Dream Center for allowing us to use their amazing space,” Deck said.
