(Springfield, Mo.--02/09/18) A clinic in the heart of Springfield, aimed at helping our neighbors who are undeserved and uninsured.
"I haven’t been to a dentist in over 10 years,"explains Patient Kevin Reed.
Kevin lives in Springfield and says the clinic is badly needed."I couldn’t afford it, I just don’t have any money to go so it’s imperative, there’s no other way for me to see a dentist." For Kevin the care he got here isn't just affordable--- it’s a lifeline. "If it wasn’t here I wouldn’t be getting work done so I'm very glad it’s here."
That’s why Lift Up Springfield was established on the belief that everyone deserves access to healthcare regardless of their ability to pay. Dr Tricia Derges, CEO of Lift Up Springfield, wants the clinic to help the homeless, immigrants -- and many others who fall through the cracks in the healthcare system.
"It’s not right. We’ve got low income programs, but everything is on a sliding scale and again when they can’t meet any of these well there’s nowhere to go, it’s a dead end," explains Dr. Derges.
As the need for low cost healthcare continues to rise, the expansion is intended to meet that demand.
"Healthcare is something that we all have to have and we have to have the doctors to do it, you know that’s really important and we’ve got to have the backing behind it to be able to do these things."
The organization relies entirely on the help of volunteers and will provide basic medical and dental care to anyone who walks in the door.
"We have made an impact if they were to have to pay for that $4.3 million. So we’re able for every dollar that we get donated, we can take that and represent in $86 in leverage.
