Police warn against sharing graphic video on Facebook Messenger

Posted: Updated:

Joplin, Mo. -- (2/5/2018) The Joplin Police Department is warning the public about a graphic video circulating on Facebook Messenger.

The video shows an African American female child being sexually abused by an African American adult male.

The Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force has received two reports about the matter, however it is a national issue.

Facebook users are forwarding the video with the intent of identifying the adult and child, however the child has been located and rescued and the adult is in custody for related offenses in another state.

Police are asking the public to not share it and to delete it immediately. According to police, it is a federal violation to possess and/or distribute this file, regardless of the intent.

If anyone is unsure how to delete the video, they are encouraged to contact the Joplin Police Department for assistance.
