Springfield man in custody after evading police

Posted: Updated:

Springfield, Mo. -- (2/2/2018) A Springfield Police officer was working in an extra-duty capacity at Walmart on E. Kearney Friday morning when he observed an armed male subject breaking into a vehicle.

When the officer went to approach the suspect, the male entered a white Nissan and fled the area, nearly striking the officer with the car. Shortly after, the vehicle was found abandoned in the area.

According to reports, the suspect then stole a Jeep Cherokee. When the suspect was near Broadway and Locust, a Greene County deputy located him and initiated a pursuit. After a brief pursuit, the suspect bailed out and fled on foot. A perimeter was established with SPD Officers and Greene County Deputies.

In the 1500 block of N. Missouri, the suspect forcefully pulled a woman out of her car and fled in that vehicle. Deputies and officers pursued him from this scene before he lost control at Division and Johnston and crashed into a tree.

Deputies took the suspect into custody and transported him to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
