SPRINGFIELD, MO (02/01/18) - Police are continuing to look tonight for the suspects who shot and killed a man on the west side of Springfield at the 2300 block of West Springlane in the mobile home park. Police are investigating as a homicide.
The victim was identified as Kenneth R. Clark, 38, of Springfield. Next of kin notifications have been made for the victim.
“Preliminary, it looks like it was probably a targeted thing," says Lieutenant Robert Byrne. "So there probably was some relationship.”
According to police Clark was in the home when witnesses reported that multiple males entered and gun shots were heard before the suspected took off.
“A description that we were able to provide was that there were 3 to 4 males, unknown race, and they had their face covered and left the area in a red colored passenger vehicle," said Byrne.
Byrne was unable to say if police have been called to the residence before. The landlord of the mobile home told Fox 5 that he had tried getting the people that lived there our for around 2 months.
With little information, Byrne says they are talking with neighbors to find out as much as they can.
“It is a challenge, I mean, especially in the early stages with everything and the lack of information that we have initially," explained Byrne. "But, again, I would encourage anyone that has any information to contact the police department and come forward with that information.”
The Springfield Police Department did confirm to me that one of the witnesses was Stacey Herman, the mother of Hailey Owens who was murdered by Craig Wood in 2014. We will continue to update you as the investigation continues.
