Charges filed in Motel 6 homicide

UPDATE: Cassidy Clayton was taken into custody Thursday evening. 

Springfield, Mo. -- (1/24/2018) UPDATE: Two are now in custody and three have been charged for the December homicide at a Motel 6 in Springfield. Cassidy Clayton is still at large. Charges have been filed in a recent homicide at a Motel 6 in Springfield. According to reports, Tyson L Hamm, 31, Andre S. Smiles, 29, and Cassidy R. Clayton, 22, all of Springfield, have been charged with second degree murder for events occurring on December 29, 2017, at the motel which resulted in the death of Stephen G. Dowd of Springfield.

As is set forth in the probable cause statement, Mr. Dowd went to the Motel 6 to purchase drugs. After entering the hotel room, he was robbed and in the course of the robbery, was shot and killed.

Smiles is currently in the Department of Corrections on unrelated charges. Hamm is currently in the Greene County Jail and being held without bond. Clayton is at large. Please contact the Springfield Police Department if you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Clayton.
