Shell Knob, Mo. -- (1/18/2018) Firefighters have terminated the search for a missing Shell Knob woman

On Tuesday evening, Central Crossing Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire off of H Highway, south of Shell Knob. The reporting party was calling from across the lake stating smoke and flames were visible.

Southern Stone and Eagle Rock fire departments were also dispatched at this time for automatic mutual aid assistance. Upon arrival crews found a large three-story home that was nearly entirely engulfed in flames. It was determined that the home had two occupants, one of which was accounted for and one who was not. A search attempt of the basement area of the home was attempted but deemed impossible.

One occupant of the home was transported to the hospital by ground and later flown by helicopter to a larger facility. Firefighters extinguished the fire and continued search efforts for the other occupant until around midnight. The Stone County Sheriff’s Office secured the scene through the early morning hours until fire crews returned early Wednesday morning. Fire crews and investigators continued the search throughout the day until dark on Wednesday bringing in heavy equipment to assist with search efforts.

Fire crews and investigators returned again on Thursday morning. After no success locating the missing victim, a decision was made to terminate further search efforts.

No official determination has been made as to the cause of the fire. The fire is not currently considered suspicious and is thought to be related to the wood burning fireplace.
