Phelps County, Mo. -- (1/17/2018) On December 23, 2017, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department investigated a shooting incident on County Road 3520. The victim, 34-year-old Tanya Johnson of Rolla was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound. She was subsequently flown to University Medical Center in Columbia and later pronounced dead.
During the early stages of the investigation, it was determined that 26-year-old Dallas Hogue of St. James, a convicted felon, was present during the shooting and had been in possession of a firearm.
On January 10 of this year, the Grand Jurors of Phelps County indicted Hogue and charge him with 1st degree Involuntary Manslaughter. According to reports, Hogue recklessly caused the death of Tanya Johnson by shooting her. He was also indicted for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Hogue knowingly possessed a handgun, and he had previously been convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm on January 16, 2014 and felony resisting arrest on September 8, 2011.
An autopsy was performed on December 26, 2017 confirming the death was from a single gunshot wound to her back.
A joint investigation by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Phelps County Coroner, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol into this death is on-going.
