SPRINGFIELD, MO (01/12/18) - Baseball season is almost back and some Cardinals fans came out to show their support for the love of the game.

Some former Springfield Cardinals were joined by a few other St. Louis Cardinals in their annual Cardinal Caravan. Making fans ready to hear batter up.

“We probably attend 8 to 6 games a season," says Cardinals fan Joe Fondaw. "Hotels kill us more than the tickets!”

Not only kicking off baseball season but a couple of players had a message to give younger fans.

“Regardless if you guys want to play baseball or not, whatever you choose to do whether it’s a teacher or gardner you push hard and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t because you can," says St. Louis Cardinals Alex Mejia.

Young and old alike, Cardinals fans say going to the games is tradition. "Go to about 25 games a year," says John Bearden.

The Cardinals are teaming up with Missouri Farm Burea Insurance to fight local hunger. Fans at select caravan stops are able to bring non-perishable food donations to help those in need.

Making fans even more loyal to the birds. "We are winners. We’re bread to be winners that’s what this organization is about," says Fondaw.

It’s never too early to think about season 14 of the Springfield Cardinals. The birds kick off with Opening Day at Hammons Field on Thursday, April 12, 2018 against the Midland RockHounds at 7:10pm.
