Springfield, Mo. -- (1/11/2018) The Salvation Army in Springfield is activating its Emergency Overnight Warming Center Thursday through Saturday due to predicted extreme cold. Local residents in need are encouraged to come to its Warming Center located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway in Springfield. The warming center will be available to men, women and families. In addition, its Emergency Disaster Canteen will be available to those whom decide they do not want to come to a warming center by providing warm drinks, extra blankets and other necessities.
“We have the ability to serve over 100 individuals a night through this program,” said Major Butch Frost, Corps Officer. “This program only operates because of the generosity of our community.”
The Salvation Army’s Warming Center will be open tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Hot drinks, dinner, beds and other necessities will be provided as well as a small breakfast served each morning. The Salvation Army is seeking new or good adult hats, coats and gloves to distribute through the Warming Center. Donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army’s main officer at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway. Financial donations are also helpful to support the Warming Center.
