SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- (12/01/2017) As many consumers are coming forward to share stories of frustration, Maker Geeks' reputation is being called into question by the Better Business Bureau, making some wary of the Springfield 3-D printer filament manufacture.
Two dozen complaints have been filed against the business, 18 of which were reported in the past year alone. However, according to the BBB, 18 of those 24 complaints have gone unresolved with no response from Joshua Ben Smith, the companies owner.
"This has the lowest rating on the Better Business Scale, it has an 'F' rating, and we've issued an alert because of it," said Stephanie Garland, the Regional Director of the Better Business Bureau.
Among a few of the guidelines, the 'F' rating is based on the number of complaints the company has received, how many of those have been answered and how transparent the business is.
With no phone number on their website and a fake Republic address listed online, the only way customers can communicate with Smith is through e-mail, but some say that even that has proven useless.
In the complaints filed on the BBB's website, customers outline how some products have been faulty or have even failed to come in. Complaints have also stated that refund requests falling on deaf ears has been a common re-occurrence.
"Some people are saying that they've ordered merchandise from this company and that they've never received it or that they've only receive half of their order. One person in particular is a kindergarten teacher who relieves on federal grant money in order to make her program run, and she has had a problem getting money back," said Garland.
We reached out to Smith, and he did respond saying:
"We are deeply saddened that the BBB felt the need to issue this; we are a small company that has experienced tremendous growth over the last 4-6 months, and while that’s a good thing, we know some things have slipped through the cracks, and we are working hard to make them all right - we are tackling any customer support issues head on to either get the clients filament shipped out or a full refund if they would rather have that. We have upgraded our website to allow us to keep an accurate inventory count as well as many key hires to elevate our customer support as well as our production facility here in Springfield. Currently we manufacture and sell about 200,000 lbs of 3-D printer filament and process around 15,000 orders a year."
The BBB recommends that before doing business with any company that has poor ratings to do your research and stay aware. If you would like to file a complaint of your own, you can do so by clicking here.
