Springfield, Mo. -- (11/20/2017) Police have been negotiating for more than nine hours with a man expected to jump off the roof a building in downtown Springfield.

According to witnesses, the man has been standing on the edge of a building near Park Central Square above Coffee Ethic since a little before noon. At least two officers are on the roof trying to talk him down.

Dozens of officers and firefighters responded to a call about a man on the roof of the library holding a knife or box cutter. The man has been on and off standing on the edge yelling, running around and occasionally sitting.

It appears the man is not cooperating with police.

Police have blocked off several roads around the square. About six to ten officers and two firefighters remain on the scene. An ambulance is also on standby.
