Suspect wanted for Rolla motel robbery arrested

Rolla, Mo. -- (11/13/17) Officers from the Rolla Police Department responded to the Quality Inn motel at 1507 Martin Springs Drive, Rolla, Missouri for an armed robbery. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a black male entered the motel, brandished a handgun and demanded money. At the time of the robbery, there was no cash inside the register.

The suspect sprayed the clerk in the face with pepper mace and fled the scene east on Interstate 44 (I-44) in a white Dodge Challenger. On 11/14/2017 the suspect in this robbery, Tyler D. Johnson age 33 of St. Louis, Missouri was arrested in Carbondale, Illinois. Johnson is currently being held in Carbondale and
is wanted by several agencies for numerous armed robberies in Missouri and Illinois.

It is believed Johnson is responsible for approximately seven separate armed robberies in the last two weeks. Formal charges against Johnson are being filed by the Rolla Police Department and being forwarded to the Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
