UPDATE:

Monett, Mo. -- (9/22/17) The Officer involved in the shooting that occurred on Friday September 8, 2017 in Monett was Officer Austin Royster who has been with the Monett Police Department for over one year. Officer Royster was placed on administrative leave following the incident allowing for a full investigation. An internal investigation for compliance with policy and procedures of the Monett Police Department has been completed resulting in Officer Royster being removed from administrative leave and placed back on regular duty status effective Friday September 22, 2017. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is still completing the investigation of the officer-involved shooting. No further information will be released until the conclusion of the investigation and Barry County Prosecuting Attorney’s review.

UPDATE: 

Monett, Mo. -- (9/22/17) The family has been notified so we can now release the name of the deceased as Michael
Culhane a 50 year old white male of Monett.

MONETT, Mo. -- (09/08/2017) On Friday evening, around 5 o'clock, officers were dispatched to a Monett residence for a reported overdose.

After arriving at the scene, an officer confronted the subject and the situation escalated. The Monett Police Department Officer discharged his weapon, hitting the subject. The subject was transported by ambulance away from the scene and was later pronounced dead. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting the investigation of the officer involved shooting. 

No further information will be released until the conclusion of the investigation and Prosecution Attorney's review.
