Man charged in missing person investigation

Morgan CO. -- (9/8/17) In an ongoing Missing Persons investigation, Joanna L. Anderson, age 54 of Rocky Mount, was reported missing on May 17, 2016.

On September 5, 2017, Darrell Willis, age 44 of Rocky Mount, was questioned by deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office in reference to the disappearance of Joanna Anderson. During that interview Willis alleged that he helped transport and dispose of a 55 gallon drum containing the remains of Joanna Anderson.

On September 5, 2017, deputies of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office recovered a 55 gallon drum off of Red Arrow Road in Rocky Mount in Morgan County containing human remains. An autopsy was conducted on the remains at the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office in Columbia, Missouri. The results of the autopsy revealed that the remains were of an adult female that had been dismembered. The head and hands had been removed and were not present in the barrel. A positive identification has not been made.

On September 7, 2017, Darrell Willis was charged in the Morgan County Associate Circuit Court by Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney Dustin Dunklee with one count of the Class D felony of Abandonment of a Corpse and three counts of the Class D felony of Tampering With Physical Evidence. Willis has a bond of $250,000.00 cash or surety.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
