On Friday, July 14, 2017, Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Hood's Truck Stop located in the area of South State Highway K and West Interstate 44 in western Greene County after a female reported her 10-year old daughter missing.
According to the mother, they were traveling when they stopped at the gas station; the mother entered the store, leaving the 10-year old in the vehicle, and when she returned, her child was missing. Greene County Sheriff's Deputies quickly responded to the area to begin an immediate search of the area.
Due to the suspicious circumstances and need to quickly locate the child, Greene County Detectives classified her as an "endangered person" because it did not meet the requirements to issue an Amber Alert.
During the course of the investigation with the assistance of the McDonald County Sheriff's Office, it was determined the child was with a family member safe in a location in McDonald County, she had never been with the mother and no abduction occurred. GCSO Deputies are still investigating this incident to determine the course of events and the mother is being detained for further questioning. Subsequently, she was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and filing a false police report.
