SPRINGFIELD, MO (07/13/17) - The Shepherd of the hills is returning for another season. And with new owners we’re going to be seeing some new attractions coming and even some old ones will be returning.
“Shepherd of the Hills historic homestead will be in full force this year," says director of the play Keith Thurman.
It’s a part of a lot of peoples story here in the Ozarks.
Co-owner of the Shepherd of the Hills Jeff Johnson says, “When I heard that the play was for sale I was so excited I couldn’t hardly stand it. I thought if I could figure out how to be involved in saving the play it would be a dream come true."
Johnson says that families that visit Branson are looking for more adventures and activities. And with a quarter of a million people visiting the Shepherd of the Hills each year, Johnson says they will be adding the Homestead Adventure Park!
That’s right! Moms and dads get ready for a new place to spend your days in Branson! ATV rides, more zip lines, play grounds and tree houses will be coming soon! And the 230 foot tower will have rock climbing on its north side!
“Just stayed hopeful that the right person would come along and keep the story alive. And that seems to be, exactly, what happened," says 14 season veteran Jacob Combs.
Construction will be done next year. But this fall, Johnson says they plan on having a fall festival with a haunted hay ride.
And with the historic site, folks gather every year to see the famous play that 40 million people had read by 1914.
If you haven’t seen the Shepherd of the Hills play you are getting a second chance! The play is going to be opening up next week.
