ROGERSVILLE, Mo. (7/12/17) A day after a fatal crash at the intersection of Highway 60 and Industry Road in Rogersville left a woman dead and two others seriously injured, officials are warning that this isn't nearly the first accident at this intersection. Logan-Rogersville Fire Chief Rich Stirts says his crews respond to wrecks at this intersection about a half dozen times a year, "“That crossover is what is getting people, until those are done, Missourians will continue to die at these intersections on these high speed roads,” says Stirts.
With cars travelling through the crossover intersection at high speeds, Stirts says crossing or merging onto Highway 60 can be a challenge, with deadly consequences. MODOT is currently examining this and other similar crossover intersections on Highway 60 in Rogersville to see if improvements need to be made. We were able to contact MODOT today, a spokesperson told us that no changes are currently planned for the Highway 60 and Industry Road intersection due to monetary restraints.
Until changes are made, Stirts urges drivers to use extreme caution when approaching this and other crossover intersections on Highway 60, "“Be very cautious if you are at those intersections and crossing over, look twice. And then for those folks that are actually coming on the interstate try to anticipate. Let off the gas a little. If you see a car sitting there and they look antsy, just don’t be driving down the road with your cruise not paying attention to the roadway.”
